January 16, 17 & 18, 2014
As the Society goes forward in trying to realize our Vision of Eliminating Poverty through Systemic Change, it is necessary for all our members to understand not only what Systemic Change is, but also to understand what it means to be in Poverty as viewed and lived by those in Poverty. Additionally, because of the grass roots structure of our Society and the necessity to train our members in Systemic Change, our Councils and Conferences must assume the burden of training our membership. To fulfill this information and training requirement, the National Council has developed, under a licensing arrangement with AHA Corporation, a family of Training workshops which have adapted many of the processes and materials used by AHA in their Bridges Out of Poverty series by including Vincentians values and charisms. We will be offering this training in conjunction with the South Central Regional Meeting. The purpose of this training is to provide attendees with the tools, information and understanding to replicate this training in their own Conference and Councils.
The Training can be partitioned into the following Workshops;
1) Systemic Change Overview - Introduction to Systemic Change
2) Bridges Training - A view of poverty through Individual lens
3) Council System Change - Roles and Responsibilities of the Council in Systemic Change
4) Conference System Change - Conference Roles & Responsibilities in Systemic Change including Mentoring & Getting Ahead
5) Implementation - What's Next
6) Getting Ahead Facilitator Training
1) Systemic Change Overview and 2) Bridges Training form the basis for the Society's Systemic Change Program. They provide the framework and our foundation for helping Vincentians develop a deeper understanding of poverty. Overtime all members, as a minimum, should have the opportunity to attend and participate in these workshops. These two workshops are prerequisites for attendance in the other workshops. You will notice these workshops are being offered on both Thursday and Friday. 3) Council Systemic Change - describes in detail the Roles and Responsibilities of the Council in Systemic Change. The primary target audience is the members of the Council Boards, including the Conference Presidents. The Secondary Audience is the Conference Membership to help them understand their role and how it fits with what the Council in doing.
4) Conference Systemic Change - describes in detail the Roles and Responsibilities of the Conference in Systemic Change and includes the roles mentoring and Getting Ahead play in working with those we serve both during home visits and subsequent support in helping them out of poverty. The primary target audience is the leadership and members of our Conferences. The Secondary audience is the members of the Council Boards to help them develop a better understanding of the support role of the Council to the Conferences.
5) Implementation - What's Next? - This workshop provides a candidate process for initial implementation of Systemic Change including the division of functions between the Council and Conference.
6) Getting Ahead Facilitator Training - The Getting Ahead Program is a process to help individuals working together as a group build their resources and a personal plan to get out of poverty. This workshop will train Facilitators for Getting Ahead Workshops.
