Don’t Rain on our Walk for the Poor!  Wow!  The rain did come! It was welcome but not timely.  The location was moved indoors to Holy Family Life Center/Kitchen in Lindale on September 29th 2012 for the annual St. Vincent DePaul, Voice of the Poor event.  There were 30 hardy walkers that made the 37 laps around the hall to reach a mile.  Some went farther.  Breakfast burritos and juice were served.  Sponsors and donations helped to net around $2000. Thanks to all who participated!  Walk for the Poor 2012

Roger Opiela of Jefferson, TX won the donation Raffle quilt, “Our Pantry” by Marge Boland, and quilted by Cheryl Pontius. The drawing was held at the conclusion of the “Walk for the Poor”.  The raffle netted about $1000 for the works of the Society of St. Vincent De Paul Council of Tyler.

Ozanam Orientation in Longview was held October 6.  It was the first presentation by our team of the new revision.  After we got started, the butterflies left and it went quite well.  Good participation from the group.  And thanks for the delightful light lunch prepared by the Vincentians of St. Matthews.

A car on US 69 struck Vincentian Margie Benge of Jacksonville, as she and others participated in a “Chain of Life” demonstration.  The car driven by a 20 year old man struck Margie when the driver fell asleep at the wheel.  Margie was in Critical Care at Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler initially.  She is now improving, breathing on her own and responds to simple commands.  Her guardian angel has been busy! Please keep her in your prayers.

October first signals the beginning of a new fiscal year for the Society of St. Vincent DePaul.  That means it is time for your annual reports, filing of IRS 990 and Solidarity.  Please submit these to Council by December 1.
